New Builds
C. Toms and Son have been building boats since the 1940's. Although the majority of our builds are fishing vessels, we have also built small tugs, workboats, passenger and car ferries such as the inter island ferry in the Isles of Scilly and both Dartmouth and our own car ferries. We work in both wood and steel, employing skilled and experienced shipwrights and welder fabricators. With steel vessels we use pre-cut kits.

We generally work to designs by Macduff ship designs and S C Macalister, with the maximum specification for a vessel being dependant upon its type. Vessels can be fully fitted out including full paint works or completed to a bare hull.
Over the last two years we have built a steel vivier 14.9 metre vessel for the Kennedy Brothers, completed in spring 2009 the boat is now fishing from the Isle of Lewis. In addition we built a 12 metre steel scalloper for D and Q trawlers Exmouth.
Currently we are building a 16.4 metre steel vivier boat which will fish from Newlyn.
We also offer a six metre steel, single chine work boat, engined and painted for £15,000. Additional extras can be catered for and will be quoted on according to specific requirements. The build time for a work boat with no extras is approximately 6 - 8 weeks.
