Hall Walk

The Hall Walk is one of the most popular walks in Cornwall.

The full walk is 4 miles (6.5km). It is classed as moderate grade because the footpath contains some steep climbs in places but there are benches at regularly spaced intervals where you can have a rest and admire the views.

It is a circular walk and two ferry crossings complete the circle. The walk can be started from either Fowey, Bodinnick or Polruan, all of which have car parking.

The walk is suitable for dogs but please be aware that they need to be under close control as there will be livestock in the neighbouring fields.

Hall Walk route starting at Bodinnick

1. From the ferry slipway in Bodinnick, walk up the village hill past the Old Ferry Inn until you see a narrow footpath on the right hand side signposted ‘Hall Walk’.

2. Follow the footpath from Bodinnick along the level path until you come to ‘Q’ memorial above Penleath Point. The memorial commemorates Sir Arthur Quiller Couch, a famous novelist and scholar who was known as ‘Q’ and lived in Fowey from 1891 to 1944.

3. From the ‘Q’ memorial, the path runs high along the northern bank of Pont Creek. At the end of the wooded section, pass through the stile and kissing gate and walk along the field fence line for a short time before taking the right hand gate back into the woods.

4. This section of path drops down and is rocky. At the junction, turn sharp right, almost doubling back on yourself and continue down to the small hamlet of Pont.

5. Cross the small wooden bridge and continue up the path past the cottages on your right hand side. Take the first path on the right signed Polruan.

6. Follow the path uphill through a gate into a series of fields. The path runs along the top of the fields and then through a gate into woodland. At this gate take the lower path which you stay on all the way to Polruan.

7. In Polruan, the Polruan Passenger ferry runs from the quay to Fowey. In summer you will arrive at Whitehouse Pier and during the winter months at Fowey Town Quay. From both landing points in Fowey you will need to turn right and walk along Fore Street to Caffa Mill, where the Bodinnick car ferry can take you back to Bodinnick.
